Roots of True Worship… And the Revival of Truth in the Last Days

Our Savior was born of the tribe of Judah, spent His life with the Jews in Israel, observed and taught the “Jewish” laws, and commanded His Jewish disciples not to go to the Gentiles but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Are these facts significant, or mere accident? By downplaying these and other basic truths and detaching itself from its own roots, could Christianity have done Bible believers a great injustice?

Yahshua the Messiah came at Bethlehem when the Jews again were back in their land. The Temple was standing and the Levitical priests played their part in worship of Yahweh. Although the Romans governed the land of Palestine, the Jews were allowed to worship in either the Temple or synagogue with comparative freedom.

The people of Judah were given sufficient time to get re-established in their homeland since their return under Ezra and Nehemiah. The Torah was read and expounded each Sabbath, and worship of Yahweh was again in vogue.

A Special Time and Place

The opportunity for salvation has always been “to the Jew first.” The Jew was allowed to become the root or source of the truth by having the evangel first revealed to him. If he refused to believe or spurned the offer, the Greek or Gentile was called. This is the gist of Paul's message to the Romans: “For I am not ashamed of the evangel of Messiah: for it is the power of Yahweh unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16).

Now under the Roman government relative peace and calm allowed the Jews to worship Yahweh as He had commanded. The message of the birth of the Messiah was given first to the Jewish shepherds.

The Savior was born at Bethlehem (“house of bread “), into a Jewish family, into a community that spoke Hebrew, the language of the Bible. The people were quite familiar with prophecies of a coming Redeemer and an air of expectancy was everywhere.

But They Rejected Him

The only place on earth where an entire class of people would comprehend the prophecies of the coming Redeemer was the Holy Land. The Torah was taught and studied. The Jews would have firsthand knowledge of Bible prophecies dealing with the coming Messiah. They would be the first to perceive that He was the exact fulfillment of these prophecies.

John reveals, “He came unto His own, and His own received Him not” (John 1: 11). The Jews who should have acknowledged that Yahshua had fulfilled these prophecies, rejected Him as the Redeemer of Israel.

They were looking for a Savior who would free them from the iron hand of Rome. They expected Him to come on a white horse with pomp and power and drive the Romans out of the Promised Land.

They were not conditioned to accept a babe in a manger, a meek and mild Teacher of righteousness. His rejection of their traditions and hypocritical customs angered the scribes and Pharisees.

Instead of freeing them from the hated Roman government, He spent His time showing their perversion of the Torah through their own pet doctrines. “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men” (Mark 7:7). The very people He came to save became His worst enemies.

The twelve disciples called out of Judaism were chosen to proclaim the truth Yahshua brought to earth. The writers of the New Testament were given the commission to proclaim His message to a lost and dying world.

 Tearing Out the Roots

The first generation of leaders of the various congregations in the Middle East were Jews, and became known to the world as “Jewish Christians.” Eventually the Jews died off and were replaced by converts from paganism, known as “Gentile Christians,” who brought with them their heathen customs and ways of worship.

By the time of the Council of Nicea in 325 C.E., pagan customs and teachings overwhelmed the ekklesia, the “called-out ones,” popularly known as the “church.” Seventh-day Sabbath worship was moved to Sunday. The worship of the reborn sun at the season of Saturnalia became the birthday of the “Son.” Pagan holidays soon flooded in, such as New Year's, Valentine's Day, Easter, May Day, and Hallowe'en. None of these is found in the Bible.

Within a short time the “church” lost its Jewish flavor. It soon became filled with the unregenerate who continued as before with their pagan ways. The “church” accepted these foreign customs and days. Known as syncretism, their adoption with new understanding and new meaning allowed pagan ways and pagan days to become a part of worship. Heathenism became a tradition and part of churchianity. Much of nominal worship was nothing more than baptized paganism.

Only a few Jews became true converts to Yahshua the Messiah. In general the greater body of Jews continued their worship with animal sacrifices and offerings at the Temple and meetings in the synagogues. Circumcision was rigidly followed and was required in order to gain access to the Temple.

Fewer than 40 years after the impalement of Yahshua the Temple was destroyed and the priesthood could no longer function. Soon Jerusalem itself was off limits to Jews. Worship as given by Moses was no more. Animal sacrifices and offerings at the Temple ceased. Jews ultimately would be driven from the Holy Land.

For some 1900 years there was no place on earth that a nation as a whole gave witness to the greatness of Yahweh by keeping His Sabbaths, which He says are a SIGN to His people, Exodus 31: 13, 17 and Ezekiel 20:12, 20.

A Return to Original Truths

In 1948 Israel was recognized as a state by the United Nations. Today it is the only nation in the world in which Hebrew is the national tongue, which is the original language of the Bible and the heavenly language spoken to mankind.

Only in the tiny state of Israel do we find Yahweh's weekly Sabbaths as well as His Feast days nationally recognized—but not always observed. The Old Testament Torah and its precepts are acknowledged as Yahweh's law. Bible prophecy revolves around Israel and the surrounding nations of the Middle East. Armies will converge there for the final battle of the ages.

Yahweh has now brought back to the land of Israel a people who acknowledge Him as their Elohim. The establishing of Israel as a nation was a necessary preparation for the return of the Messiah. Just as a viable teaching of the Bible created an air of expectation of the Messiah at His first coming, it is fitting that Yahweh will have a people prepared to receive Him when He comes again. He will return to the land of Israel where Hebrew is spoken, Zechariah 14:4.

There will be a return to the teachings of the Bible before the return of the Savior. Just as John the Baptist was the EliYAH to come, there will be a revival of deeper Bible truth among the people in Palestine and others around the world. This was prophesied in the Old Testament: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh: And he shall turn the heart o f the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest  I come and smite the earth with a curse” (Malachi 4:5-6).

True Worshipers in the Last Days

Though, the Jews of that time did not fully accept the message of John the Baptist, a small remnant of Jews did listen to John's warning and turn to Yahweh. Malachi talks of the “great and dreadful day of Yahweh” which has not yet occurred. We know it as the Great Tribulation mentioned by Yahshua and others in the New Testament. This difficult time when Yahweh smites the earth with a curse is still ahead of us.

There will yet be a group of people who will seek the ancient ways and return to the truth of Scripture. Many of the truths yet to be taught will be radically different from the bland teachings of mainline churchianity.

The true message will be more than the social gospel, health and wealth, or the message to feel good about ourselves and maintain high self-esteem. It will be the teachings from the Bible as seen from Yahweh's point of view; how He perceives man's attitudes and activities on earth.

Yahshua must remain in the heavens until this restoration message is taught and accepted by a people prepared for His return. This is clear from Peter's teaching following Pentecost, namely that the people should prepare to meet Yahshua our coming Judge:

Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of Yahweh; And he shall send Yahshua the Messiah, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times 0f restitution of all things, which Elohim has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began (Acts 3:20-21).

This was a clear message to the Jews to change their minds and attitudes concerning Yahshua the Messiah. This change of attitude is necessary to receive seasons of refreshing or renewed strength from the throne of Yahweh.

Yahshua's return is dependent upon the true repentance of a people and their turning with heart and mind toward Yahweh. The recovery of lost truth must come first, even before the presence of Yahshua. The Old Testament will once again be studied with renewed interest, with new insight to learn the things Yahweh has spoken since the beginning of the world. An air of expectancy will soon stir up a people to a thrilling anticipation of Yahshua's return.

The NIV translation is clearer, showing that Yahshua must remain in heaven until the time of restitution, which means “to restore everything.” This is the work yet to be accomplished by the coming ELIYAH (a Hebrew name meaning, “My Mighty One is Yah”). This message will be given at the end of the age according to our Savior:

“And Yahshua answered and said unto them, ELIYAH truly shall first come, and restore al! things” (Matt. 17: 11).

Name Truths Revived

Yahshua prophesied that both His Name and Yahweh's Name would be widely proclaimed at the end of the age. Yahweh's laws and way of life will again be taught to a lost and dying world before Yahshua's return. A complete restoration of Bible truth is now going forth with increasing boldness in these latter days.

Many say they knew there was something wrong with their worship, and when the many pagan influences that had infiltrated the churches were pointed out, they were amazed. Christmas, Easter, Halloween, New Years—all have their origin in pagan worship and have no place in Yahweh's pure worship.

Many are surprised to learn that the Mighty One of Israel has a name, Yahweh, which we use exclusively. His Name is not Jehovah, which means in Hebrew, “I create mischief, destruction, ruin” – describing Satan himself! At YRM we are striving to fulfill that great commission in these latter days by proclaiming both Yahweh's and Yahshua' s Names and the clear Bible truths to all who have ears to hear and eyes to see.

Notice that the word messenger in the following verse (Mal. 3:1) evidently refers to John the Baptist who was the ELIYAH of his day. However, prophecy shows that an EliYAH group of people will again be preparing the way, actively fulfilling these prophecies. We are striving to do the work of that messenger! Take note: “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me: and Yahshua (Hebrew = Adon), whom you seek, shall suddenly come to His Temple, even the MESSENGER of the Covenant, whom you delight in: behold, He shall come, says Yahweh of hosts” (Mal. 3: 1).

Yahshua and Temple of Saints

First, the “messenger” (EliYAH) prepares the way for those who are converted and rejuvenated. With a nucleus of truly dedicated believers, the Savior Himself can return. Yahshua returns to His “Temple,” likely a physical building in Jerusalem, which His presence purifies, and He then refines and cleans up the sons of Levi, the priests, who are actively carrying out their duties.

The “messenger of the Covenant” plainly refers to Yahshua, Who will return to His Temple (Hebrew = hehkel, lit. palace). The Temple carries a spiritual meaning as well. Yahshua will return to the “spiritual Temple” composed of the saints who will welcome Him: “Know you not that you are the Temple of Yahweh, and [that} the Spirit of Yahweh dwells in you? If any man defile the Temple of Yahweh, him shall Yahweh destroy; for the Temple of Yahweh is holy, which [Temple] you are” (1Cor. 3:16- 17). “In whom you also are builded together for an habitation of Yahweh through the Spirit” (Eph. 2:22).

Not only will the Savior return to Jerusalem and stand upon the Mount of Olives, but also the multitude of saints will meet Him in the air. Because Yahshua is then among His resurrected saints this will place Him within His “spiritual Temple,” surrounded by the myriad of the redeemed. The Temple at Jerusalem will be clean and garnished for Him; also the saints will have on their garments of salvation, clean and white.

“And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints” (Rev. 19:8).

What About the Jews?

The Jews in general are not eager to divulge some of their deeper understanding of the Bible. They themselves are reluctant even to pronounce or spell out Yahweh's Name!

A number of prophecies proclaim that Yahweh's Name will be known by Jew and Gentile alike at the end of the age. Jewish writings and other records acknowledge His Name as Yahweh.

Bible prophecies are replete with warnings that at the end of the age will occur the great and terrible day of Yahweh and the special significance His Name will have at that time:

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of Yahweh come. And it shall come to pass, [that} whosoever shall call on the name of Yahweh shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as Yahweh has said, and in the remnant whom Yahweh shall call” (Joel 2:31-32).

The Psalms reveal the importance of obedience and calling on our Heavenly Father Yahweh's Name. His wrath will be upon the disobedient heathen and those who have not called upon Yahweh's name: “Pour out your wrath upon the heathen that have not known you, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon your name” (Psalm 79:6).

At the end of this age, the saints are promised that Yahweh will allow His people to go through a cleansing period to perfect and purify them. His people will know His Name and call out to Him.

“And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It [is] my people: and they shall say, Yahweh [is] my Elohim” (Zech. 13:9).

Both Zechariah and Zephaniah reveal that during the reign of Yahweh on earth that all people will call on His Name: “And Yahweh shall be king overall the earth: in that day shall there be one Yahweh, and his name one” (Zech. 14:9). “For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Yahweh, to serve him with one consent” (Zeph. 3:9).

The Name of the Savior

When we invoke Yahweh's name, the response is hardly a raised eyebrow. But not calling upon Yahweh's Name may well become the death knell of the future.

The Savior's Name YAHshua incorporates the short form (YAH) within it, and we know persecution of those holding fast to truth is coming. Believers will suffer reproach for using Yahshua's Name: “If you be reproached for the name of Messiah, happy are you .for the spirit of glory and of Yahweh rests upon you: .on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified” (1Pet. 4:14).

Yahshua Himself said that His Name would gender hatred from the world of unbelievers: “And you shall be hated of all [men] for My name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Mark 13:13). Encouragement to hold fast to Yahshua's Name is found in the letters to the seven Assemblies in Revelation: “And has borne, and has patience, and for My name's sake has laboured, and hast not  fainted (Rev. 2:3). “I know your works, and where you dwell, [even] where Satan's seat [is]: and you hold fast My name, and has not denied My faith ..(Revelation 2:13).

“I know your works: behold, I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it: for you have a little strength, and have kept my word, and have not denied my name” (Rev. 3:8).

“Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the Temple of my Elohim, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my Elohim, and the name of the city of my Elohim, [which is] new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my Elohim: and [I will write upon him] my new name” (Rev. 3:12).

Not only do we find Yahweh's and Yahshua's Names to be vitally important, but our own names could be blotted out of the Book of Life if we do not overcome daily: “He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels” (Rev. 3:5).

Our Redeemer promises that He would not remove our name from the Book of Life, but that He would confess our name before the Father and His angels if we are faithful. “Then they that feared Yahweh spake often one to another: and Yahweh hearkened, and heard [itj, and a book of remembrance WtlS' written before him for them that feared Yahweh, and that thought upon His Name” (Mal. 3:16).

 Are YOU in Acts?

The Book of Acts does not end with “Amen.” It likely is unfinished, awaiting the final chapter yet to be written.

Could it be that you are being called now to have your name included in the concluding chapter concerning the activities of the ekklesia, the “called out ones?”

Today His people are sealed by baptism into the saving Name of Yahshua. The short or poetic form of His name “YAH” is here used, in addition to the Hebrew word “shua” meaning salvation. The name Yahshua means the “Salvation of Yah.” His name is the seal. Revelation 7:3 reveals that at the end of the age His servants will be sealed with His name: “... sealed the servants of our Elohim in their foreheads” (Rev. 7:3).

“And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of Elohim in their foreheads” (Rev. 9:4).

The sealing with His name is accomplished by the act of baptism into Yahshua's saving Name: “And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads” (Rev. 22:4). See also Galatians 3:26-29.

Determine now to seek Yahweh with all your heart and walk in the ways He has given in His Word so that you will not be taken unawares. Yahshua is coming soon to reward the faithful who have helped proclaim His Name and His truths.

We are diligently seeking to restore spiritual truth and encourage all readers to make certain your name is recorded in that book of remembrance. When that 29th chapter of Acts is finally written, may it include you as one who calls upon Yahweh's Name and is found worthy to receive a crown of life.

Have you asked yourself the question: Why do I celebrate Christ-mass or in Protestant denominations Christmass? Have you really investigated  deep into this " custom " and its origens? I once asked a majority of people arround  here in Ky. these questions and more on WHY do they celebrate this worldly custom.

One person answered : Well because it is Christ ( or more correctly Messiah's ) birth day. Oh really I answered, and then I asked them those questions above.

A second person I asked answered: Oh we celebrate it because we were taught it as a child from our parents so we celebrate it too.

Do you know, people go through this life NEVER even stopping to think and question WHY they do the things they have been taught from childhood, they all go along with the crowd like sheep being led to the slaughter.

Let me ask you out there that do not already KNOW about this custom, if your church pastor asked you to follow him to a " high cliff " and then, if your church pastor asked you, come follow me and let's all JUMP OFF THIS HIGH CLIFF " unquote, would you really follow him and jump off the high cliff, knowing that you will be jumping to your death ? Well, this " christmass thing " is in fact doing much the same thing in following your church pastor and all the crowd.

Many church goers claim that " christmass " is the birthday of the real Messiah or Savior, but many other people know better. In a book called " All about American Holidays by Maymie Krythe she writes: "" The exact date of Messiah's ( christ's) birth is not known; and during the first two or three centuries little note, apparently, was taken of the anniversary . For church officials opposed such celebrations as savoring OF PAGANISM "" Page 254  Little do most people know, christmas was also just another day to early American leaders like George Washington, Remarkably, this custom was not celebrated untill the recent year of 1836, that the first state was " Alabama that declared christmas as an official holiday.

WAKE UP BELOVED ,and please read the article below with an open and un-biased mind or your own oppinion, or will you follow that " pastor or minister " to jump over the high cliff to your eternal death "?

May ALL MIGHTY YAHWEH help you to " come out from among them and be ye separate, and touch not( or do not ) the unclean things, and I will receive you unto myself. 2 Cor.6:16-18.'' Also, He cries out " come out from among her my people, that you have no fellowship with her sins, and receice not of her plaques .Revelation 18:4.

December 25- Birthday of the Sun

The Christmas super-holiday is the standard for popular observances today. Families will gather on December 25, gorge themselves on ham and turkey, stare at a decorated tree while a swooning Bing provides the ambience, and exchange billions of dollars in gifts, many of them unwanted. A crescendo of months of retailer hype will climax on one grand day of the Savior’s supposed birth.

But hold on. Amid the bells and booze, frolicking elves and fruitcake, many sense that something isn’t right. If Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the Savior at Bethlehem, who came to bring peace on earth and good will toward men, why isn’t there more peace and good will in our world? With so many millions observing this holiday, should not our world be changing for the better? Is this not what a “religious” observance is supposed to accomplish?

Maybe the problem is simply that people fail to catch and hold the “spirit of Christmas.” Or could the holiday itself be flawed? Why do so many people sense an emptiness at this time of year, a major letdown amid the torn gift-wrapping and crushed ribbon bows?

Where’s the Scriptural Christmas?

Christmas, after all, is supposed to be rooted in the Bible. It is assumed to honor the birth of the Savior of men in a manger at Bethlehem. (Its name is a contraction for “Christ’s Mass.”) But the overblown rites of Santa Claus, tinsel, Rudolph, gift exchanging, and football mostly obscure any religious overtones of the observance.

A revealing survey would be to poll frantic Christmas shoppers to find out how many know the origins of Christmas. Do you know what Christmas is all about? Are you mildly amused each year with newspaper and magazine articles detailing the strange, irreverent customs of Christmas? On the other hand, maybe you have found these facts somewhat troubling. Isn’t it time you honestly investigated the matter? If Christmas is that significant – the biggest holiday of the year demanding a great deal of your time and money — shouldn’t you at least know what it is actually all about? This is especially serious considering the religious flavor of Christmas. The Creator in heaven may just have a definite opinion about the observance of this holiday that you need to discover.

Do you observe Christmas because you believe it is in the Bible? Try as you might, you will not find a hint of Christmas anywhere in the Scriptures. There is neither a call to observe it nor an example where anyone in the Bible did so. Shocking? Millions are oblivious to this simple fact. As one authority puts it, “There is no historical evidence that our [Savior’s] birthday was celebrated during the apostolic or early post-apostolic times,” Christmas, p. 47, The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge. Another writer makes this astounding statement: “The day was not one of the early feasts of the Christian church. In fact the observance of birthdays was condemned as a heathen custom repugnant to Christians,” The American Book of Days, by George W. Douglas.

What a revealing statement! The single most important religious holiday observed today in Christianity would have been FORBIDDEN in early New Testament times. Many historians and Biblical scholars corroborate this fact. Now read a candid admission from The New Catholic Encyclopedia, “Inexplicable though it seems, the date of the [Messiah’s] birth is not known. The Gospels indicate neither the day nor the month,” vol. 3, p. 656. And the Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature says, “The fathers of the first three centuries do not speak of any special observance of the nativity. No corresponding festival was presented by the Old Testament ... the day and month of the birth of [the Messiah] are nowhere stated in the Gospel history, and cannot be certainly determined,” Christmas, p. 276.

If Christmas is as popular and pervasive a religious holiday as retail sales indicate, why isn’t it found anywhere in the Bible? Why aren’t we told the month —let alone the day— of  the Savior’s birth?

“But what about the manger scene with shepherds and wise men?” you ask. Yes, the manger is described in the Bible, but it was never provided as a focus for the continued observance of the birthday of the Savior. Shepherds came to the manger, but the wise men visited a house up to two years later. Here’s the account of these wise men, right from Matthew 2:11, “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary [Miriam] his mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.”

And then there is the timing. Usually during Christmas plays someone will read the account in Luke 2:8: “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.” Is this describing a cold December scene? According to Jeremiah 36:22, December is wintry in the Holy Land, cold and rainy, and on occasion snow covers the ground (see Daily Life in the Time of Jesus by Henri Daniel-Rops).

Luke, however, says that sheep were still in the open fields. This had to be before the cold winter rains and snows began to fall. The livestock had not yet been moved to shelters. Notice: “It was a custom among Jews to send out their sheep to the deserts about the Passover [early spring], and bring them home at the commencement of the first rain” (Clarke’s Commentary by Adam Clarke, vol. 3, p. 370). Clarke says the first rain commences in October or November. He adds, “As these shepherds had not yet brought home their flocks, it is a presumptive argument that October had not yet commenced, and that, conse-quently, our Savior was not born on the 25th of December, when no flocks were out in the fields ...the [Bible says] flocks were still in the fields by night. On this very ground the nativity in December should be given up.”

Another indication that the Savior was born in the fall rather than in winter is the fact that Caesar Augustus had declared a census or tax be made of the empire, and each citizen had to report to his hometown to register, Luke 2:1-5. Ordering the people of the empire to travel great distances in the dead of winter would have surely incited a revolt, at least among the Jews in the Holy Land. No right-minded king would have requested such a thing. He more likely would have called a census in early fall after the crops were harvested and the people had money and time to travel before bad winter weather set in.

Various prophetic Scriptures indicate that Yahshua the Messiah was born at the time of the fall Feast of Tabernacles. That may have been one reason that the inn was full when Joseph came to Bethlehem, as the city had swelled with Feast observers.

Sun (Not Son) Worship

If Christmas is not in the Bible, where did it come from? The answer is found in every encyclopedia and in many newspapers or magazines appearing around December 25. What they say about the roots of Christmas should shock every honest Bible believer into taking a serious look at the annual observance and what it really celebrates.

Historians do not hide the fact that Christmas was an invention of the Roman church, designed to compete with the heathen Roman feast of Saturnalia in honor of the sun deity Mithras. Mithras bore remarkable similarity to the Biblical Messiah. The Mithraic feast, like Christmas, was celebrated to commemorate his birth. Notice the remarkable parallels, as detailed by Joscelyn Godwin, professor at Colgate University. She writes that Mithras was “the creator and orderer of the universe, hence a manifestation of the creative Logos or Word. Seeing mankind afflicted by Ahriman, the cosmic power of darkness, he incarnated on earth. His birth on 25 December was witnessed by shepherds. After many deeds he held a last supper with his disciples and returned to heaven. At the end of the world he will come again to judge resurrected mankind and after the last battle, victorious over evil, he will lead the chosen ones through a river of fire to a blessed immortality,” Mystery Religions in the Ancient World, p. 99. Godwin remarks, “No wonder the early Christians were disturbed by a deity who bore so close a resemblance to their own, and no wonder they considered him a mockery of [the Messiah] invented by Satan.”

These two popular movements were vying for dominance in the Roman Empire – one being  pagan sun worship, the other Christian. Historian and archaeologist Ernest Renan once wrote, “If Christianity had been halted in its growth by some mortal illness, the world would have been Mithraist” (Marc Aurele, p. 597). Caught in the middle were the Roman emperors, who wanted to unify and solidify their diverse empire. They didn’t need divisive religious factions. For political reasons, the Roman rulership saw great advantage in synchronizing and harmonizing these religious beliefs into one.

So today, much of what is accepted as Bible-based tradition is the direct result of compromising and mixing with heathen religion. Roman Emperor Constantine, a former pagan himself, gave the most significant push to the Christian-pagan blending of teachings like Christmas. Among other things, he would decree that worship for Christianity switch from the seventh day Sabbath to the first day of the week – Sun-day – the day superstitious heathens worshiped the sun.

“This tendency on the part of Christians to meet Paganism half-way was very early developed,” says Alexander Hislop in The Two Babylons, p. 93. Interestingly, Hislop notes that the pagans gave up precious little of their own beliefs and practices. “And we find Tertullian, even in his day, about the year 230, bitterly lamenting the inconsistency of the disciples of [Messiah] in this respect, and contrasting it with the strict fidelity of the Pagans to their own superstition.”

Hislop quotes Tertullian, the most ancient of the Latin church fathers whose works are extant, as he decries the early church observances: “By us who are strangers to Sabbaths and new moons, and festivals, once acceptable to [Yahweh], the Saturnalia, the feasts of January, the Brumalia, and Matronalia are now frequented; gifts are carried to and fro, new year’s day presents are made with din, and sports and banquets are celebrated with uproar.”

Why a Death Celebration Honoring a Birth?

A mass is a celebration of the Eucharist or the emblems of the death of the Savior. Yet, “Christ-mass” is an observance supposedly in honor of His birth. Why? The answer is found with the secular ancients. Mithras was known as the Sun Deity. His birthday, Natalis solis invicti, means “birthday of the invincible sun.” It came on December 25, at the time of the winter solstice when the sun began its journey northward again. Pagan peoples were overly concerned with life and fertility. They saw life fading in the darkness of winter and so held festivals in honor of and to beckon back the sun to give life and light to the earth once more. The Dictionary of the Middle Ages explains how a funeral mass came to be celebrated as the supposed birthday of the Savior:

“In patristic thought [the Messiah] had traditionally been associated with light or the sun, and the cult of the Sol invictus, sanctioned as it was by the Roman emperors since the late third century, presented a distinct threat to Christianity. Hence, to compete with this celebration the Roman church instituted a feast for the nativity of [the Messiah], who was called the Sol iustitiae .... Usually when Christians celebrated the natalis of a saint or martyr, it was his death or heavenly nativity, but in this case natalis was assigned to be [the Messiah’s] earthly birth, in direct competition with the pagan natalis,” pp. 317-318. (That is, it was to compete with the birthday of Mithras.) So confused were some about what or whom they were worshiping that Pope Leo I (440-461) chastised Christians who on Christmas celebrated the birth of the sun deity!

The sun cult was particularly strong at Rome about the time Christmas enters the historical picture, according to the New Catholic Encyclopedia. “The Feast is first mentioned at the head of the Depositio Martyrum in the Roman Chronograph of 354. Since the Depositio was composed in 336, Christmas in Rome can be dated that far at least. It is not found, however, in the lists of Feasts given by Tertullian and Origen,” vol. 3, p. 656.

Where did Mithraism come from, this Roman religion that venerated the sun deity and influenced Christianity so greatly? Kenneth Scott Latourette in A History of Christianity, traces Mithraism to the mystery religions of Egypt, Syria, and Persia. “Almost all the mystery cults eventually made their way to Rome,” he notes. “They were secret in many of their ceremonies and their members were under oath not to reveal their esoteric rites. Numbers of them centered about a savior-god who had died and had risen again. As the cults spread within the Empire they copied from one another in the easy-going syncretism which characterized much of the religious life of that realm and age,” pp. 24-25.

Nimrod: The Grandfather of Paganism

Clearly, Christmas as the observance of the Savior’s birth did not come into existence immediately. It was not observed for at least three centuries after His birth.

But Christmas as a pagan holiday traces back thousands of years to a man named Nimrod, founder of ancient pagan Babylon. Forefather to Mithras, Nimrod began a counterfeit religion in the Book of Genesis that was to compete with the True Faith of the Bible in every conceivable way down through the centuries. The Bible refers to it as the religion of Mystery Babylon — the mother of false religion that will be destroyed when the Savior Yahshua comes to set up His throne on earth, Revelation 18. Babylon’s false worship is found today in some aspect in nearly all religions, including  churchianity.

The Madonna and child theme, which is universal or evident in hundreds of religions down through the centuries, had its origin in Babylon. Nimrod’s wife was Semiramis, the first deified queen of Babylon. She is also known variously as Diana, Aphrodite, Astarte, Rhea, and Venus. Her son was Tammuz, also called Bacchus, Adonis, and Osiris. He was the supposed reincarnated Nimrod. He came back to life when the dead yule log was cast into the fire and the evergreen tree appeared as the slain king-deity reborn at the winter solstice (The Two Babylons, p. 98). The similarities with Biblical elements found among pagan religions is not simply coincidence. It is the design of the Adversary to sidetrack seekers of truth into believing they are worshiping Scripturally.

Saturnalia – Forerunner of Modern Christmas

Tammuz, the Babylonian sun deity, was the first counterfeit savior. Yahweh in Ezekiel 8:14-18 condemns ancient Israel for adopting worship of Tammuz, which included sun worship and the asherah (phallic symbol).

“Then he brought me to the door of the gate of Yahweh’s house which was toward the north; and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these. And he brought me into the inner court of Yahweh’s house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of Yahweh, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of Yahweh, and their faces toward the east; and they worshiped the sun toward the east. Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch [asherah] to their nose. Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.”

Elements of this worship are still found in today’s Christmas rites. The Romans worshiped Tammuz as the sun deity Mithras in a special observance called the Saturnalia. The Saturnalia was named for Saturn, otherwise known as Cronus. Cronus is an alias for Tammuz. His wife and mother was Rhea (Semiramis). The Saturnalia, therefore, was just another observance for Tammuz, the Babylonian, counterfeit redeemer. The Romans kept the Saturnalia in December, at the time of the winter solstice, in honor of the returning sun. The festival lasted seven days. “All classes exchanged gifts, the commonest being waxed tapers and clay dolls,” says the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Eleventh Edition.

Legend has it that the Saturnalia was instituted by Romulus under the name Brumalia (from bruma, rneaning winter solstice), Britannica, p. 232. “The pagan Saturnalia and Brumalia were too deeply entrenched in popular custom to be set aside by Christian influence,” notes the New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge, p. 48.

And so the church established the birthday of the Savior to coincide with the heathen feast day. “...the Latin Church, supreme in power, and infallible in judgement, placed it on the 25th of December, the very day on which the ancient Romans celebrated the feast of their goddess Bruma. Pope Julius I was the person who made this alteration” (Clarke’s Commentary).

This fact is supported by the New International Dictionary of the Christian Church, p. 223:     “December 25 was the date of the Roman pagan festival inaugurated in 274 as the birthday of the unconquered sun which at the winter solstice begins again to show an increase in light. Sometime before 336 the Church in Rome, unable to stamp out this pagan festival, spiritualized it as the Feast of the Nativity of the Sun of Righteousness.” Hislop observes, “That Christmas was originally a Pagan festival, is beyond all doubt. The time of the year, and the ceremonies with which it is still celebrated, prove its origin,” The Two Babylons, p. 93.

This blending of observances only served to confuse worshipers. By the middle of the fifth century, Pope Leo the Great rebuked his over-cautious flock for paying reverence to the Sun on the steps of St. Peter’s before turning their backs on it to worship inside the westward-facing basilica. Even some bishops, like Troy, continued to pray to the sun. He eventually went back to sun worship entirely (from The Early Church, by Henry Chadwick).

Protestants Object to Christmas Observance

As the Roman Empire grew and as merchants traveled, the customs of Christmas spread also. Cultures in northern Europe contributed some of their own traditions, or twists on some unbiblical themes, nearly all of which had a basis in Babylonian paganism. The decorated tree, St. Nick, yule log, wreaths, cookies, berries, mistletoe, bonfires, roast goose, roast pig, wassailing, caroling, and other familiar fixtures were added or embellished for the Christmas-Saturnalia in various countries.

When the Protestant movement attempted to rid itself of the excesses and sins of Roman Catholicism, there also came an opposition to Christmas that almost obliterated it entirely in England. “In England, for example, the Puritans could not tolerate this celebrating for which there was no biblical sanction. Consequently, the Roundhead Parliament of 1643 outlawed the feasts of Christmas, Easter, Whit-suntide, along with the saints’ days,” Celebrations, p. 312.

For a period of 12 years the staunch Puritans kept the shackles on Christmas, making it an ordinary day of business and even a day of fasting. Yet “with the Restoration in 1660 the citizens reclaimed Christmas, but it was a different festival from what it had been. The religious aspects were often neglected, with the result that the secularization of the holiday was well under way,” ibid.

In America, strong religious antagonism to the feast of Christmas lasted from 1620 to 1750 – 130 years! In 1776 General George Washington surprise-attacked the German Hessians on December 25, winning a critical Revolutionary War battle by defeating the Christmas-celebrating, drunken German mercenaries. Obviously, Christmas was not an important celebration for the father of our country!

Henry Ward Beecher, clergyman and lecturer, wrote in 1874 of his boyhood in New England, “To me Christmas is a foreign day, and I shall die so. When I was a boy I wondered what Christmas was. I knew there was such a time, because we had an Episcopal church in our town, and I saw them dressing it with evergreens, and wondered what they were taking the woods in church for; but I got no satisfactory explanation. A little later I understood it was a Romish institution, kept up by the Romish Church.” Eventually the major Protestant denominations accepted Christmas, “although they reacted violently against the corruption of the Christkindl, the Christ Child, into ’Kriss Kringle,’ ” Celebrations, pp. 315-316.

Thanks for the Memories?

Can anyone who sincerely seeks to worship in purity and truth continue practicing a legacy from rank Mystery worship?

“But Christmas gives so many memories,” some may argue. “What’s so wrong with giving the children happiness and joy at this time of the year?” From a purely human standpoint, probably nothing. If Christmas existed apart from a Creator who has very clear expectations for worship, then no harm would be done to celebrate it.

Christmas, however, is a religious holiday as well as a secular observance. Its pagan rites Almighty Yahweh outright and forcefully condemns in the Scriptures. Because of that fact alone we must heed when He thunders, “Learn not the way of the heathen!” Jeremiah 10:2.  Nor is it acceptable to the Father in heaven to take only what seems to be properly religious about Christmas and downplay the pagan attributes.

Those seeking True Worship cannot mix the holy with the profane. Paul writes, 14: “Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2Corinthians 6:14. We simply cannot pretend to be worshiping in truth while partaking in pagan worship rites that the Bible condemns.

They Worshiped Trees

Space prohibits us from detailing all of the customs of Christmas and their origins in the mystery religions of ancient peoples, but the Christmas tree deserves special note because of its prominent role. In Old Testament times an indispensable part of Baal worship involved the asherah, a sacred tree stem or pole (from which we get the May pole and totem pole). The asherah was a carryover of even more ancient tree worship. These asherah were used by the Canaanites in what the King James Version calls “groves.” Typically asherah sites included an altar and a stone pillar (a survivor of even older stone-worship).

Some historians believe asherahs were connected with phallic worship. “At first [asherah] may have been living trees (Deut. 16:21), but in later usage were wooden poles, perhaps erected to represent a tree,” Eerdman ’s Bible Dictionury, p. 93. Rather than condemn and destroy this rite of Canaanite Baal worship that they found in the Promised Land, the Israelites, as was their custom, chose instead to indulge in it. And because of that Almighty Yahweh allowed Israel to be taken into captivity and nearly destroyed. Read 2Kings 17:9-11.

The “green tree” is mentioned 13 times in Scripture and in every instance it is linked with idolatry! Can we find much difference between idolizing trees anciently and  adoration of Christmas trees today? Notice what the prophet Jeremiah wrote in connection with tree-idol worship: “Thus says Yahweh, learn not the way of the heathen ... for the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go ...” Jeremiah 10:2-5.

Although based in mystery worship, the modern Christmas tree traces to Europe. “...tree worship is well attested for all the great European families of the Aryan stock. Amongst the Celts the oak-worship of the Druids is familiar to everyone. Sacred groves were common among the ancient Germans, and tree-worship is hardly extinct among their descendants at the present day” (The Golden Bough, p. 58).

The ancients were very concerned about the dead vegetation in December and the waning of the sun. Fir trees were always green, symbolic of life, and to the ancients represented immortality in a dead world. They were often set on fire to portray and beckon back the sun, hence the modern practice of stringing trees with Christmas lights and round bulbs and balls. Ultimately, the Christmas evergreen springs from that old Babylonian, Nimrod. It represents the resurrected and reincarnated man-deity. “Now the Yule Log is the dead stock of Nimrod, deified as the sun-god, but cut down by his enemies; the Christmas tree is Nimrod redivivus – the slain god come to life again,” The Two Babylons. p. 98. He was reborn as his son Tammuz.

Yule (from huel meaning wheel) was a Germanic and Celtic sunfeast in the period December-January which became absorbed into Christmas. It commemorated the turn of the sun and the lengthening of the day.  The Christmas tree wasn’t found in America until 1821, brought by the Pennsylvania Germans. Christmas itself wasn’t recognized until 1836, when Alabama became the first state in America to make it a legal holiday.

Virtually every Christmas custom is connected with some man-made rite or heathen tradition that has little or nothing to do with the Bible or True Worship.

The Right Alternative: True Bible Holy Days

In the final analysis, how could Almighty Yahweh expect His people to observe Christmas, which is so thoroughly steeped in heathen ritual? He kept the month as well as the day of the Savior’s birth hidden. The answer is obvious and clear – He never wanted it to be observed! If He did, He would have told us when and how it was to be kept, just as He did for those days He commanded in His Word.

Clearly, if Christmas were commanded in the Bible, few would be observing it — as opposed to the vast millions around the world who indulge in this ritual today. That should be proof enough that Christmas is not Scriptural. What Yahweh commands, man ignores; what He prohibits, man indulges in.

Once we are enlightened to the truth of Christmas, we find the holiday not only distasteful but totally unacceptable to Yahweh. Israel was condemned for sun worship in Ezekiel 8. Similar rites based in sun and fertility worship come alive each December 25.

Now that you know the truth, you must make a decision. Do I continue keeping a nonBiblical observance that Yahweh condemns? Or do I start honoring the very days He commands in His Word for all True Worshipers?

His seven annual Feasts are found in Leviticus 23, the only “holidays” sanctioned in the Scriptures. These Feasts were kept by Israel, the patriarchs, the Messiah and His apostles, and will be kept worldwide in the  coming Kingdom (see Isa. 66:2-3, Ezek. 45, Zech. 14:16-18).

The choice is yours, and so is the promise of salvation for all who obey and follow the Truth.

If You Know Him, Then What Is His Name?

Most Bible believers live a lifetime without ever seeing the glaring inconsistency in their approach to the Creator of the universe. Unlike other major world religions, whose adherents use a specific name for their deity, the name employed exclusively for the Heavenly Father worshiped in Christianity is a common and generic title, or titles. While the heathen faithful understand exactly whom they worship, millions of churchgoers call on and worship their Creator by the everyday terms lord and god, and then proceed to ask, "Do you know Him?"

The obvious fact is, churchianity has neglected the Heavenly Father’s revealed, personal Name. Many don’t even realize that He has a name, believing that the title God is a name because it is captialized. All the while they accept the fact that thousands of different denominations are worshiping under these same titles but with a plethora of contradictory beliefs and practices. Which leads one to ask, do they themselves really know Him?

Identify and Know Your Heavenly Father!

Aside from these contradictions, is the sacred Name of the Heavenly Father really that important? Does it matter what you call Him? Does He even need to have a name for proper worship, as the deities of all other religions do? Some believe that He knows who you mean no matter what you call Him. But have they considered that refusing to revere His personal Name demonstrates dishonor for the One they worship, as well as blatant defiance of His Word? He tells us precisely that in Malachi 2:2.

How many Bible believers would fall on their knees in times of desperation and call out to Baal? Or Vishnu? Or Molech? Obviously it DOES matter what name you use in worship. Names DO mean something. Names identify a particular entity who has particular traits and is worshiped in a specific manner and who (supposedly) responds in specific ways to well-defined and proper worship.

By calling on names like Vishnu and Buddha, you have conjured up a certain deity who must not be confused with the Almighty of the Bible. How can one expect the true Heavenly Father to respond to names of pagan worship? More importantly, how close is He to those who refuse His personal Name, deciding that a mere title is sufficient – a title suited for an identity lost in a sea of conflicting doctrines and beliefs? Is a title good enough for the true Mighty One when that same title can just as easily refer to other pagan deities? Notice the following.

The Apostle Paul wrote, "As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other Elohim but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth (as there be gods many, and lords many), But to us [there is but] one Elohim, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Master Yahshua, by whom [are] all things, and we by him" (1Cor. 8:4-6).

If there are many gods and lords, how can you distinguish the one worshiped with one of those titles? Regardless of the arguments and excuses people will use, Yahweh the true Father says He is jealous for His Name, and He will not allow praises to graven images that proceed from common titles, Isaiah 42:8.

Intimacy of Names

We in our Western civilization have nearly lost the significance of names. For us, Johnny is just as good as Tommy. But even then we may be influenced to choose a name for our child based on someone we know who had a particular name. In that case the name is connected to a person – maybe a father or grandfather or uncle – whose very personality and attributes come to mind when the name is spoken or referred to.

Nowhere is this more true than in Scripture. In fact, names have much greater significance when it comes to the Bible. This is particularly so with the One we worship as the Creator and Sustainer of this universe. Philippians 2:9 says His Name Yahweh is above EVERY name. No matter what we may think or want to believe, calling on His true Name is critically important to Him.

His Name reveals His special identity. He alone is the one known by His special people as the true Mighty One called Yahweh. You don’t mind when a stranger calls you "friend," or "sir," or "lady." In fact, you expect those you don’t know to use such titles. But once you are introduced and you give the other person your name, you feel put off if he or she continues to call you sir or lady. In doing so your acquaintance is rejecting the closeness that using your personal name would otherwise induce.

Yahweh feels the same way. If once we know His Name but insist on calling Him by titles of generic deities, we fall out of favor. His Name is a mark of intimate closeness. How can some claim a "personal relationship" when they don’t even call on Him by Name? In making a covenant with Israel, one of the very first things Yahweh did was to introduce them to His personal Name. He wanted and expected the intimacy that using His personal Name would engender.

Getting Down to Specifics

When Yahweh proclaimed through the prophet Isaiah in 42:8, "I am Yahweh, that is my Name," He didn’t say, "That’s one of my names" or "You can just call me whatever you wish, I’ll know who you mean." On the contrary. He said, "That is my Name." Period. End of discussion. The psalmist wrote of Him in 83:18, "... Whose Name alone is Yahweh..."

In the Bible, when a person gave his name to another individual, it signified the joining of the two in closest unity. When Yahweh gave His Name to Israel, He was joining with them – it was a marriage – the closest union two can enjoy. We as spiritual Israel and bride of the Messiah are to take on His Name as well.

Is it just coincidence that a woman takes on a man’s surname in marriage? Why is that? It is because now they are in union – they have become one in aspiration, goal, and commitment to a single cause in a family headed by the husband. (In this era of feminism it’s hard to say how long that will continue to be the practice.) Acts 15:14 tells us that Yahweh takes out from the gentiles a special people "for His Name." He is creating a family under His Name: "For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Master Yahshua the Messiah, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named," Ephesians 3: 14-15.

Esteemed by Name

Biblically, the person and his name are virtually equivalent and inseparable. The word "name" in Hebrew is shem. Shem means a mark or a memorial – expressing a person’s individuality. A name is a mark of a person’s honor (or dishonor), his authority, and his character. In fact, a name describes and defines everything about the person. The Name Yahweh has great significance because of what it defines. Intrinsic to Yahweh’s Name is the very verb of existence.

In Exodus 3:14 He tells Moses: "I am that I am," or "ha Yah asher ha Yah" in the Hebrew. It means I am existence itself. I cause everything to come into being. His Name Yahweh describes Him, defines Him, and displays His attributes as the one who causes us to exist now and the one who can give us everlasting existence as well. Joel 2:32 prophesies that the day will come when whoever shall call on His Name will be delivered. That meaning is also intrinsic in the definition of His Name: "I am" or "I will be." "Yahweh" connotes, "I will be there (for you)," especially when you need deliverance.

His Name is also a family Name. His people, His very Chosen, are called by His Name: "O Yahweh, hear; O Yahweh, forgive; O Yahweh, hearken and do; defer not, for your own sake, O my Elohim: for your city and your people are called by your name" (Dan. 9:19). His people take on this wonderful Name because they are in covenant union with Him – obeying Him and pleasing Him in all that they do. Astoundingly, His Name Yahweh is found no fewer than 6,823 times in ancient Hebrew manuscripts of the Bible. It simply cannot be ignored.

The Error in ‘But I speak English’

Then there is the common argument, "I don’t call on Him by His Hebrew Name because I speak English." Does a person change his name when traveling to foreign lands in which different languages are spoken? Or is his name the same everywhere he goes? Does he get a new passport at each new port of entry? Or is John Doe still "John Doe" in each country he visits? Obviously his name remains unchanged, being spelled the same no matter where he goes.

What is the English equivalent of Franzois Mitterrand? It’s Francois Mitterrand, is it not? What is the English form of Boris Yeltsin? Why, it’s Boris Yeltsin. If the argument is, I speak English therefore I use English names, then what is "Satan" in English? Satan is a name transliterated in Scripture, as are many others. As with Yahweh, the name Satan is Hebrew. The English form of Abraham is also Abraham, a Hebrew name right out of the Hebrew Scriptures and carried over almost unaltered into our English translation. What about Daniel, also a Hebrew name? What’s the English equivalent for Daniel? The name is Daniel, of course. How about Sarah and Martha?

These are all Hebrew names unaltered in the English translation because names simply are not translated. Names are transliterated, meaning that the sounds are brought across unchanged from one language to another. We have no problem with using these Hebrew names without an English equivalent because THERE IS NO ENGLISH EQUIVALENT! Why should Yahweh’s Name be any different? Why should the most important Name in the universe not just be altered, but completely replaced? (The term "god" is not an English word anyway. It derives from the Germanic Gott.)

Common Words and Names with ‘Yah’

One of the most popular words of praise is halleluyah. One can hear it in churches all around the globe. It’s one of the most ancient words of exultation in existence, and is a purely Hebrew term. "Hallel" means "praise" in Hebrew, and "Yah" is the first part of the sacred Name Yahweh (i.e. Yah-weh). Therefore halleluYah means "Praise Yah." Most do not realize that the most common word of praise contains our Heavenly Father’s very Name—"Hallelu-Yah." We see this word especially in the form hallelu-jah, but the "j" is derived from the Hebrew yod, which is a consonant-vowel equivalent to the Y. Another fact many overlook is that there was no letter J in any Hebrew, Greek or Anglo-Saxon alphabet. Therefore the original letter could not have been a J but an I or Y. The J is the newest letter in our alphabet and came into existence about the time of Christopher Columbus.

The "J" is merely an "I" with a tail on it, with a "juh" sound that evolved only recently. The "J" and "I" were used interchangeably until the 17th century. Scripture records many well-known names that contain the name of the Heavenly Father. "Elijah" was not pronounced that way in the Scriptures. It was "Eliyah," a name that means, "my El is Yah." Isaiah (YeshaYah) is a Hebrew name that means "salvation of Yah." Jeremiah (YirmeYah) means "whom Yah raises up," and Zephaniah (ZephanYah) is "hidden of Yah." Many other writers and prophets were named after Yahweh, showing the close bond they had with Him.

Inconsistencies in Argument for English

If one sticks to the position that because we speak English we should not use Hebrew forms, then we shouldn’t use the forementioned names, either, because they are Hebrew names and "we don’t speak Hebrew." It would not be right to apply that argument just to Yahweh’s Name and not to all the other Hebrew names and words in the Bible – like "Sabbath," a Hebrew name, and "Messiah," another Hebrew word.

What about all the cities in the Scriptures, like Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem, and the names of hundreds of other people, places, rivers, seas, deserts, and mountains? These would all need to be changed to English equivalents to be consistent with the argument calling for the exclusive use of English. The problem is, there are no equivalent English forms for these Hebrew names! Neither is there an adequate equivalent or substitute name or title for Yahweh’s great Name.

Let’s pursue this argument a bit further.

‘Dear (Nameless) President’

What is the English name for Yahweh? Can it be G-d, with a capital G?

First, we must realize that "god" is not a name but a title. Paul said there are gods many and lords many. Titles do not define specific individuals. There are many presidents in our country – presidents of corporations, colleges, board presidents, bank presidents...but there is only one president of General Motors, only one president of Harvard, only one president of Citibank – and each has a specific, identifiable name that he answers to.

If I wrote a letter addressed, "Dear President," it could apply to any one of these presidents. Only when I include the name with that title do I reveal whom I am specifically addressing. If I pray to the god of this world, Paul in 2Corinthians 4:4 says that I could be praying to Satan because Satan is called a "god of this world," as are thousands of other god deities man has worshiped throughout history. Even then, those deities had specific NAMES attached to their titles.

Our Foreign, English Language

Is "God" simply an equivalent for "Yahweh," used by English-speaking, Bible believers?

Does He expect His people to change His Name to some other form according to the language they speak? And is that even possible? The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) says "god" derives from the Dutch god, stemming from the Old High German, gott. It sprang from the Gothic guth, going back to the Teutonic gudo, which stems from two Aryan roots – one meaning to invoke, the other to pour in the sense of a molten image.

The point is, can we say that God is an English word? Far from it! Its common English usage belies ancient foreign origins. Relatively few of the words we use in English are in fact pure English. The word "English" itself isn’t even English! England is from "Englaland," land of the Angles. Who were the Angles? Germans from the lowlands of Germany who settled in eastern England in the 5th century (see "English," OED)

Our Impure ‘English’ Language

Our Impure ‘English’ Language

Our Impure ‘English’ Language

English is a melting pot language that borrows extensively from many languages. The statement, "I speak English so I don’t use the Hebrew name," is reasoning that lacks a historical basis in fact. Let’s analyze that statement and see just how "nonEnglish" the roots of our language really are. Discovering the origin of each of the words in that simple sentence proves enlightening indeed:

I = the letter I is the ninth letter of the alphabet, coming through the Latin from the Greek and ultimately from the Semitic or Hebrew yod – the first letter in Yahweh's Name.
speak = from the German sprechen
English =
a proper noun based in German, as already shown
so =
akin to the Gothic swa
do =
traces to sanskrit which was spoken in India
not =
Old English nought, cognate to several Old Saxon and French formations
use =
from Latin asus
the =
from Teutonic and Indo-European forms
= Hebrew Eber, one who "crosses over."
= Greek onoma .

In the statement, "I speak English, so I do not use the Hebrew Name," the word "not" is the only one of those 10 words that is English in origin. English is not by any stretch a pure language. Much of it is from the Romance languages, and vast numbers of its words derive from Greek and Latin (and ultimately Hebrew). Most of the words we use in English come from some other language.

The point in all of this is that language has very little to do with the Name of the Mighty One of the Scriptures. He was Yahweh before He put man on earth. Before there were all these languages from Babel, He was Yahweh. His Name transcends language. "Yahweh" is existence personified. Psalm 135:13 says, "Thy Name endures forever, your memorial throughout all generations." His Name is His memorial that endures for all time.

First Commandment Is Foundational

The Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:2 begin, "I am Yahweh your Elohim which brought you out of the Land of Egypt. You shall have no other mighty ones before me." All false worship can ultimately be traced to a violation of this first of the Ten Commandments. Every sin we commit results from not putting Yahweh and His will, manifested by His laws, first.

Before He says anything, Yahweh establishes in the very first commandment that HE is Yahweh our Mighty One. Ecclesiastes 12:13 bears out this important truth: "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Yahweh and keep His commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man." We continue in Exodus20:4: "You shall not make into you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." Heathens did not worship a stone image as a stone, but as a representation of some deity. He says don’t manufacture these things because they will remind you of some other deity, and I am the only one you are to worship.

Moving on, verse 6 tells us that if we love Him to keep the commandments and He in turn will show mercy to us. Now notice verse 7: "Thou shalt not take the name of Yahweh your Elohim in vain." What does it mean to take His Name in vain? Curse when you miss the nail with a hammer and smash your thumb? Or something far more significant?

Not in the Hebrew

"Take" is the Hebrew nasa, meaning to lift or bring to. Vain comes from shoaw, to rush over, bring to devastation, uselessness, waste – basically "take in vain" means to treat with neglect. When we trade His name exclusively for some title, we are breaking the Third Commandment.

"You shall not bring His Name to desolation or ignore it through neglect," the com- mandment says. When we use a common title in worship, we are missing the most important aspect of who Yahweh is and what He stands for; what He is all about and what He can do for us. His Name describes the very essence of who He is – Yahweh: He is existence itself. No title can mean all that His name stands for. A title defeats the purpose of a name. It just sits there like a pasted-on label, with no depth of meaning and tied to no particular identity.

"I am Yahweh, that is My Name, and My glory will I not give to another," He says in Isaiah 42:8. He and His Name are inseparable. Our hope is that you will grasp the awesome importance of this truth and will come to know your Creator through His personal, revealed Name Yahweh. Realize all that He can and will do for you if you will put Him first and honor His wonderful and powerful Name!

—It’s More Than a Name!

The common argument that any name is acceptable for calling on the heavenly Father not only violates the sanctity of Yahweh’s revealed, personal Name, but also is an assault on True Worship.

Now a push to unite all worship into monolithic, New Age religion is accomplishing its goals in the same way—exploiting key words that are important to proper worship and redefining them for mass consumption and unholy ends.

In the 44th chapter of Jeremiah we find our Heavenly Father Yahweh completely disgusted with His people and ready to wash His hands of them. We see a once exceedingly patient Father who has finally had enough of His rebellious children who insist on worshiping their own way no matter what.

After all the prophets He had sent to warn them, after all the trials they failed to overcome and the plagues and hardships they endured for their disobedience, nothing ever really changed.

Now the people say in defiance to the prophet, "As for the word that you have spoken unto us in the name of Yahweh, we will not hearken unto you. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes for out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil" (Jer. 44:16-17).

Here Judah is openly reprobate and contemptuous, like a bratty child who acts up just as soon as his parent’s back is turned. These rebellious people are still wanting to worship the heathen gods. No matter what Yahweh says or does, they lust to follow the apostasy of the majority religions around them.

Yahweh decides it’s time for some drastic steps. Go ahead, then, Yahweh tells them. Keep your promise to worship in error—like the heathens around you. But know this, you may no longer use my Name. Notice:

"Therefore hear the word of Yahweh, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says Yahweh, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, Yahweh Elohim lives" (Jeremiah 44:26).

This is punishment for their refusal to worship Him in truth. He does not want His name tied to them or their sin of rebellion.

I follows, therefore, that for Judah to return to True Worship would mean that Judah would have to return to using His Name.

Name Identifies True Worship

The lesson for us comes down to this: You cannot worship properly without using His proper, personal Name. His Name defines the Father as well as the one worship that is uniquely His. The only True Worship in the Bible is done in and through His revealed Name.

We learn in Revelation 7:3, 14:1, and 22: 1-4 that the 144,000 faithful who are sealed in the end days are sealed with His Name in their foreheads. His Name separates True worshipers from the false and will give them literal protection from tribulation in the latter days.

Notice what James told the people gathered at Jerusalem: "Simon Peter has declared how Elohim at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name" (Acts 15:14).

The heathens had to come out of their false worship and adhere to the true Name. True Worship and His Name go together and cannot be separated.

Those who know the true Name but insist on using replacement titles are still in spiritual Egypt, in essence still sacrificing to the Queen of Heaven because they have not come to know the true Father, which comes from using His personal Name.

I there is one truth that is clearly shown throughout Scripture it is this: His Name and True Worship go hand in hand, they cannot be separated. He prohibits man from substituting His Name just as He disallows any worship other than what He prescribes.

By showing us in Jeremiah 44 that apostate worshipers are not allowed to use His Name, He is also showing us that only in His Name can one worship in truth.

The true Name is not just a matter of His "knowing who we mean" when we worship or call on Him. It is more than identity. His Name is the difference between being in the truth and being outside the truth. It’s the difference between worship that pleases Him and worship that provokes Him.

This truth is as difficult for some to accept as it is for them to accept the Sabbath over Sunday. It is nothing more than 2,000 years of entrenched tradition that has them confused. All they need to do is allow Yahweh to work with their hearts—show them the truth—and they will see the difference.

His Name identifies His people as it defines the right way of worship.

The prophet wrote: "O Yahweh, hear; O Yahweh, forgive; O Yahweh, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my Elohim: for your city and your people are called by your Name" (Daniel 9:19).

Names in our culture are mostly labels. Not so with Yahweh. His Name signifies the one and only true Heavenly Father as opposed to the false deities of apostate worship. His Name is a true means of identification, a link to the only true Creator.

The simple lesson for Israel and for us is this: Reject True Worship and you reject His name. The reverse is also true: Reject His Name for a substitute one, and you no longer have the authentic, True Worship of the Scriptures. The two are inseparable.

Danger in Name Apathy

Names and words are powerful in ways you may not have considered. Is there any danger to the notion that any name is acceptable in worship of our Heavenly Father?

Aside from keeping us from the truth, the typical nonchalance regarding the Heavenly Father’s Name and His atypical worship is part of the general indifference that will open the door to the universal, false religion to take control soon. At the heart of this system will be a demon-backed religious leader who will demand worship on a worldwide scale.

A book called New Age Bible Versions details how the way is being paved for the great deception. It reveals that the newer translations of Scripture are taking important words and terms associated with pure worship and generalizing them to appeal to a broad spectrum of worshipers.

Highly publicized recently is the taking of male references to Yahweh in Bibles and religious song books and replacing them with general references and pronouns like "She" for "He" (as worship of the ancient, feminine goddess Sophia returns to churchianity).

Ultimately, attempts will be made to include everyone of every faith under a single, global religion. To accomplish that, the wording in new Bibles will help to ease many into further false worship.

The move is subtle now; once churchianity is rendered even more pliable, however, the complete yielding to a one-world religion will come rapidly.

Paving the way for this universal religion is a reorienting of beliefs through the manipulation of words. Unaware of what is happening, the masses accept new terminology that moves them further from what truth they had.

Titles That Thrill Satan

Turn to Luke 4:8. This is Yahshua’s response to Satan’s invitation to fall down and worship the Evil One: "And Yahshua answered and said unto him, Get behind me, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship Yahweh your Elohim, and him only shall you serve" (Luke 4:8).

The KJV says "L-rd thy G-d." The Aramaic or Hebrew, which Yahshua spoke, reads, "Yahweh your Elohim." But even in the Greek, Yahweh’s Name would have remained unchanged.

If Yahshua actually said, "Lord thy God," Satan would have been delighted. Why? Because He could have been referring to Satan himself. The Apostle Paul calls Satan the "god of this world" in 2Corinthians 4:4. In Matthew 12:24 Satan is called Beelzebub, which is another term for "Lord of the Flies."

In effect our English translation says: it is written, you shall worship the lord god—which could just as well be Satan—and him only shall you serve!

We can see how the Adversary delights when people are led to worship in common titles today. Doing so removes them from the true Father and a false one is put in His place through a generic and incorrect identification.

Any time we are not worshiping Yahweh in His true Name, we are in danger of invoking false mighty ones manufactured by the Father of lies himself—even if done in ignorance.

Change the name of the one you worship and you change WHO you worship and the WAY he is worshiped. Substitute a universal title and remove yourself from the True Yahweh. It is not simply a matter of semantics; it is not simply a choice between two alternatives. It is a matter of true versus false identification—and proper worship versus erroneous worship!

That is why Yahweh characteristically introduces Himself by Name first, then specifies precisely what worship He expects: "I am Yahweh: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images" (Isa. 42:8). In Exodus 3, Yahweh tells Moses that His Name is Yahweh, then proceeds to explain how He will bring Israel out of the sin of Egypt. They would come to know True Worship, including the Holy Days, after they first learned His personal Name.

Power Through Words

We establish our beliefs through language. Language can inspire, convict, and challenge, as in the way Yahshua used it; or it can be used to manipulate and subjugate, as despots have done over the centuries. Words can sway emotion and opinion, as in a good movie or a good book.

Even husbands, wives, and children know what the wrong word or the right word can mean in their relationships.

The use of general titles like god and lord promote universalism, which is exactly the opposite of the True faith. True Worship is narrow, specific, well defined, and includes a relatively few faithful identifying the true Father by name (Matt. 7:14).

The way of error leading to destruction is broad and many will be walking on it, Yahshua said (v. 13). One way this is accomplished is by the argument that it does not matter what we call Him. Any name or title is acceptable.

As explained, titles like god and lord are general and apply to many different mighty ones, even to Satan himself. Pagan idols as well are called by the same titles commonly used as names for the Heavenly Father.

Titles do not fix personal identity. They are like the generic "human being." To call on "G-d" is like calling your neighbor "the person."

Today’s New Babel

Even the sacred Name of the Creator Himself can lose its significance when we allow others to manipulate with words and substitute names.

The human-centered, humanistic movement that began in the Renaissance is finally succeeding in eliminating the very language of sin, which derives from a higher power. We hardly ever hear in general society terms like "immorality," "living in sin," "fornication," "virtuous," and the like, anymore.

Today man has decided to set his own standards of what is right and proper. Sin and any references to it are out, because sin recognizes a Father above, and that directly conflicts with the idea that man himself is all-knowing.

Our culture is building a new Tower of Babel, where everyone speaks the same language of moral relativism. This movement is out to change the way people think about the issue of right and wrong itself by changing their language and how right and wrong are expressed. Forces working behind the scenes have seized on the power of language to promote their own agendas.

It's all part of a revamping of Bible-based beliefs—to replace traditional and Biblical morality with humanistic beliefs. This in turn will prepare the way for the universal Man of Sin.

Instead of Biblical standards, we have today "political" correctness. As one author wrote, "Political correctness is an attempt to eliminate freedom of speech for those who hold traditional values and religious beliefs. It is overt social censorship designed to stifle the truth."

But even greater implications are those that tamper with the very nature of Almighty Yahweh and His Word. Satan is out to obliterate Yahweh and the truth of Him in a final push to prepare for His own Antimessiah.

Not just everyday words but even the Word of Yahweh is being molested and modified for an unrighteous end. A recent report notes that a prominent publisher is packaging its Bibles for worldwide distribution with the insignia, "Good News for a New Age."

Even more disturbing is how new versions are fiddling with the text itself.

Satan as God

Those who misunderstand the significance of words and names tell us that it doesn’t matter what you call the Heavenly Father. They say, "He knows who you mean" regardless. Oddly, however, those who tell us this exclusively employ the same "L-rd" and "G-d" titles, which by their universal use amount to false, replacement names.

Having been removed from the Name Yahweh, which identifies the True Mighty One of this universe and the specific worship He demands, modern worshipers have unwittingly accepted a generic title that takes them away from the only True Worship connected with His Name as well.

Not surprisingly, Satan has usurped this title. New Age and satanic writings describe Satan in terms that sound Biblical, calling Him the Divine God, saying Lucifer is God, the bringer of light, the savior of the world.

This fact will help to fulfill the prophecy of Revelation 13:4:

"And they worshiped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

But how could it happen? Quite easily. The masses are already calling on their mighty one with the same terms and titles honored in both Christianity and Satanism.

Yahweh’s Unheeded Warning

A little more deception and they simply transfer the titles from one being to another! By definition, titles can apply to any number of persons or beings.

Thus is the final fulfillment of Deuteronomy 32:17: "They sacrificed unto devils, not to Elohim; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not."

There are many new "gods" coming up in this age of the New Age. Our society is becoming increasingly taken over by pagan worship and its many false deities.

But the biggest is yet to show. The very worship of the Antimessiah all starts with violating the warning in Exodus 23:13, which is just as applicable for us today as for Israel 3,000 years ago:

"And in all [things] that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of your mouth" (Exodus 23:13).

Yahweh knew clearly what He was doing by giving us this warning. He is Yahweh Almighty, the only True Father above. His Name defines Him and His name identifies Him, just as it does those He calls His People—who are called by His Name, Isaiah 43:7.
